Freestyle Book Club: TBD

The Freestyle Book Club is led by our Bibliotherapist, Matt Keliher at SubText. This is a gathering of individuals who share their perspectives on the chosen book club theme. The Freestyle Book Club is a relaxed gathering. You can read from the list of suggestions, or choose a book on your own that fits the theme, and join us on the night of the event to share your perspective. There's nothing better than discussing the twists and turns of plot lines while working out to some 16oz curls!

Political Action Book Club-- EVICTED

Matthew Desmond's Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City is one of the most important books this decade, and one of the best books I (Matt!) have ever read. It shares the stories of eight families as they struggle to find secure housing in Milwaukee. Evicted transforms our understanding of poverty and economic exploitation while providing fresh ideas for solving one of the twenty-first century America's most devastating problems. Its unforgettable scenes of hope and loss remind us of the centrality of home, without which nothing else is possible. This is required reading.

SubText Political Action Book Club--Becoming a Citizen Activist

In the last week and a half, my identiy and values have been shaken to their very core. This election has left me feeling helpless and impotent beyond anything I've ever felt before. And, in the last week, countless others have wandered into the bookstore expressing similar disbelief. The only solution to combating this helpless nauseated feeling is to become active.

Stitch & B!tch

For this S&B, bring your Christmas stitching ideas! Bring an easy craft pattern idea to share with the group and begin to plan those holiday crafting projects.

Stitch & B!tch is a gathering of individuals who craft in any way, shape, or form. We come together for a few hours a month and listen to a thoughtful discussion prompted by listening to an engaging audiobook, typically related to a feminist topic.
