Rich Broderick reads 'Jesus of Walmart'

A subtle centrifugal force drives this collection. By turns witty, solemn or capricious, the book moves outward from private, often lyrical poems about childhood and memory on into the realm of the "real world's" self-serving myths, fears, and institutionalized inequities, and from there into work that celebrates the joys of love and the beauty and mystery of the natural world, and then still further outward into poems that consider the very nature of reality, what it means to be human, and where to find glimpses of the sacred in the midst of the profane and the disenchanted.

Rich Broderick is the author of three collections of poetry and a collection of short fiction. He is a two-time winner of the Many Voices Project Competition sponsored by New Rivers Press, and recipient of a Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowship, a Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Award and a Minnesota Book Award. He has also been a finalist for the Robert Frost Foundation Award, and is a two-time nominee for the Pushcart Prize in poetry. His work has been widely anthologized, including in The Next Parish Over (New Rivers Press) and the definitive The Book of Irish-American Poetry from the Eighteenth Century to the Present.
